“This Way to Ghana” is inspired by the colorful energy of the shoreline on Pediatorkope, a small island in Ghana. The ground is packed down with broken shells, and the air is humid and heavy. A short canoe ride leads to the island, where hundreds of children play soccer and go to school.
There is an African proverb that says, “In the moment of need, the wise build bridges.” The piece builds on this idea, representing our many individual connections with thousands of interlocking arrows. “This Way to Ghana” includes bright pops of color mixed into a strong presence of vibrant African green.
